My Story
My name is Fiona, and I live on the edge of the New Forest, on the Hampshire/Dorset border with my husband Graham, and our beloved border collies!

I’ve been a proud owner of border collies for all of my adult life, and through them, have not only made many friends on forest and beach walks, but have also been introduced to the canine sport of Agility, where I've met so many wonderful dog breeds and characters!

I'd previously worked in the travel industry for many years, thoroughly enjoying my career, but always felt there was something missing, and I wanted something more ‘real’. That’s when I decided to step into the world of Canine Massage after witnessing the extraordinary positive changes in my seven year old border collie, following a canine massage session. I am so very lucky to now call this my Career, getting to work with so many wonderful dogs. Every day is special, and I have never been happier, knowing I am playing a key part in our dogs' comfort and wellbeing.

Why is it so important to me to help?

Often referred to as ‘Man’s Best Friend’, our dogs are incredibly loyal, with a need to want to please us, no matter how they may be feeling that day. Like so many animals, they have an ability to mask pain. They may willingly join us on that daily walk, or compete in a variety of canine sports for us without complaining, regardless that they may be in pain or discomfort, or that their body is overcompensating for an underlying musculoskeletal issue.

I am very passionate about being able to give something back to these wonderful animals who give us so much love unconditionally, and to thank them for their continued loyalty to us. By offering Clinical Canine Massage, I am able to play an important part in helping to make our dogs’ daily lives more comfortable, and in so doing, help to put a spring back in their step!

Canine Massage and my own dogs

I have always loved dogs, and have been very lucky to have had dogs in my life since I was a baby. Initially a keen interest in dog obedience with the family’s wonderful Golden Retrievers at school age, I decided that one day I would own a Border Collie, and eventually became the proud owner of Harry, our first Rescue boy and my first soulmate. As well as the usual play time, we competed at various obedience levels, achieving bronze, silver, and gold awards. Looking back to my special time with Harry, I know without question, how much massage could have helped him, not only through his active obedience training, but also into his autumn years, as he had developed and been diagnosed with, Osteoarthritis.

For the last ten years, I have competed in dog agility with our four border collies, steadily moving up through the Kennel Club grades. Solar is now Grade 7, and has competed at Championship level. Lunar is my little fun agility girl, and Mars, at the age of two, is enjoying the foundation stages. The canine massage techniques that I have learnt will benefit all of my dogs as they progress through their agility journeys. They are considered as athletes after all!

How did I discover Canine Massage?

I first discovered Canine Massage Therapy during Agility training, when I noticed that Charlie began to knock jump poles. I booked an appointment for Charlie to see a local Canine Massage Guild Therapist, and after just the second session, I noticed a marked difference in his overall flexibility and range of movement. Once we were advised by his Therapist that he was fit enough to continue training, he was no longer knocking poles! I was so impressed with his new lease of life and happy demeanor, that I booked on to the one-day Beginners Workshop with the Canine Massage Guild, to find out more.

Seeing so many positive changes with Charlie first hand, and having enjoyed the Beginner’s workshop so much, I was inspired to take this further. I signed up for, and completed, the intense and rigorous two-year Clinical Canine Practitioner Programme run by the world renowned and respected Natalie Lenton. After over 800 hours of study, covering Canine Anatomy, 60 canine massage techniques, spanning the five disciplines of, Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue and The Lenton Method™, six practical weekends working with a multitude of dog breeds and behaviour types, and a final written and practical examination, I am absolutely delighted that my dream of helping as many dogs of as possible, of all ages, to feel more comfortable through clinical canine massage, has become a reality.
